Here is a tremendous hats-off to everyone taking care of a new baby, and especially those who are also navigating additional responsibilities such as returning to work while breastfeeding! I am so proud of what you are doing, and I hope that you are able to take some time out for yourself also, maybe drinking a cup of tea while you pump in the beautiful lactation room I hope your workplace provides.

We all need to stand up and advocate for workplace and public policies that help breastfeeding families to make the transition back to work while continuing to nourish their babies. Decent maternity leave. Comprehensive infant feeding education and other resources. Safe, comfortable places and breaks to pump and store breastmilk. On-site childcare. How does your workplace stack up?

Join me in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week 2023, and supporting its theme of “ENABLING BREASTFEEDING: Making a difference for working parents.” And be sure to ask your doula for support as you make the transition into parenthood and working parenthood!
