In addition to serving private clients, I work as a contract doula for BirthWell Partners, the only community doula program in Alabama. This Giving Tuesday, I invite you to consider sending part of your charitable donations to BirthWell Partners. We have a lot of work to do here in Alabama. This state’s March of Dimes report card grade for preterm births is an F, and we continue to face significant racial and income disparities. Although a doula isn’t directly responsible for the outcome of any given birth, the support and information that we provide can be transformative for families navigating pregnancy, birth, and all the health and social systems that they need to access. Unfortunately, not everyone who needs it is able to afford this important service. BirthWell Partners offers doula support to low-resource families in Birmingham and beyond.
