Why am I an end-of-life doula?

Death is the most certain thing in our entire life. Possessions, health, relationships, jobs, all are fleeting. But from birth we are guaranteed our moment with death. When my mother died in 2017 I felt it was too soon. After some reflection, however, I acknowledged any age would have been too soon. In all honesty, I didn’t want it to happen at all. I believe this is the challenge our families and loved ones have difficulty acknowledging. The labors and pain at this time can be shared by someone like myself offering compassion, strength and spiritual support, as well as helping with simple but necessary burdens that can be taken off the plate.

For those who see death approaching the days can be filled with anxiety and uncertainty. An end-of-life doula like myself ensure those difficult days are not experienced alone. It is often said we are there to hold the space as you make this journey.
